  • 10 MB inter site replication restriction

    Hi,

I have two DC replicating in the same site.
We have software that use AD database. After we add file bigger than 10 MB in the AD database replication stop work for the first container in AD:
    DC=domain_name,DC=com

    Errors:
When you try to replicate in replmon.exe or through the Active directory Site and Services i revive BAD_STUB_DATA.
In DCDIAG i revive error 1873.

I found this article in the internet:
    KB cc739941

In the NTDS key in the registry of the DC you can set parameter:

Replicator inter site packet size (bytes)

and the size you want to be allowed for a replication.

The same problem happen on Windows 2003 R2; Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2.

The registry patch doesn't help to fix this issue I also open Ticket in Microsoft support, but for now with no success fixing that issue.

I'll be glad to here from someone that has the same issues and fix them.

    Thanks,
    Jan

Where does the 10mb file come from?

You should only be replicating AD and the contents of the netlogon and sysvol folders

Re: 10 MB inter site replication restriction

Like I say in my previous post , we have Application that use AD as a DATABASE.
The Application add different objects like - users, portals, and also firmwares.
Everything working great till we add our new firmware that is more than 10 MB.

When I delete this firmware from a Database (AD) the replication works with no problem.

I test this also in few deferent environments - 2003 R2 2008 and 2008 R2- the same issues happen on all platforms.

      Thanks,
      Jan

Can you replicate the file separately from AD?
I am still a bit confused -- is the file stored inside the AD database (ntds.dit) or is it stored separately -- if so where?

          Hi,

No, we can't replicate the file separately.

And yes the file is in ntds.dit. We are uploading the files with ldap command to the database.

          Thanks,

            Hi,

which AD partition context it's using. Any specific... like application partition.

What is the name of your application?

What does MS say about it for now?

and is there any other errors or event beside BAD_STUB_DATA
            Thanks & Regards

Re: 10 MB inter site replication restriction

Microsoft claims that RPC intra site packet size is hard coded from 1 to 10 MB file size.

              kb 2015644

The strange think is that I personally solve this issue for a Customer with Windows 2008.
The solution was reinstalling the secondary DC.
But this solution not working for me for Windows 2003 and windows 2003 R2.

The Application is SofaWare Application that works with AD database for 10 years now.
The error is in the DC=domain_name,DC=com in the first container, so i think that the file is uploaded to this container.

              Errors:
When you try to replicate in replmon.exe or through the Active directory Site and Services i revive BAD_STUB_DATA.
In DCDIAG i revive error 1873.
