  • identify DNS servers of different domains in the forest

is "nslookup domain_name" shows DNSs and DCs?

DC requires DNS role. So the answer should be YES?

DCs require DNS to be available, but not every DC has to be a DNS server (in fact, you can - but not recommended - run AD with separate non-windows DNS servers)

nltest /dclist: <domainName> or nltest /dsgetdc: <DomainName> or nltest /dnsgetdc: <DomainName> should all get you a list of DC's for the domain.

Basically, I needed to be sure that I can see all DNS servers not DC... So

nslookup <domain_name> will do the job for MS DNS servers on DCs for sure.

        Thanks!
