  • user acoounts ending with $ on Active Directory

    Hi,

As part of an AD cleanup sweep, I noticed a few AD user accounts ending with $. I have turned on Advanced View but I still can't view them on the GUI but I can get the details using Get-ADUser cmd-let. The user accounts are on the default Users container.I suspect that these accounts were created automatically as it has very little attributes set.
These accounts also have the PaswordNotRequired flag set to True.
Google search also did not yield the needed info for me. Just that there was a TechNet article which says about some of these accounts created automatically as part of a domain trust inter-operability?

    Anyone knows anything about this?

    Regards,

I've seen an old article that states Computer accounts have a $ appended to them.

More recent article seem to agree that accounts ending with a $ are usually computer account names. But, check out the extra information in the link above.

This can now be closed. I have found it out. Those accounts more likely are MSA, must have been moved out from the default container after they were created.

I have never used MSA's, and indeed was not aware of them until your reply - so thanks. Also, check out this article for more info on use of the $ character in MSA names: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...oubleshooting/
