  • AD Preferences & windows drives

I am trying to use windows AD preferences and drive mappings and have setup a group policy to use \\server\sharename\%logonUser% to map users personal drives. It works fine if I have a folder name named after the logon user though if it doesnt it wont recreate or map the drive. Is there a way to ensure that if a user home folder isnt there it will createone then map the drive.

No -- there are two separate issues
Create the home folder (in bulk if you want) through the user properties in ADUC
I normally do it in two steps:
    1) Assign a drive letter (to create the folder and set permissions)
    2) Assign to nothing (to prevent auto drive mapping)

Then use preferences to map the drive
