  • Active Directory 2003 to 2012 R2 retaining 2003 server name

    HI

I always follow these great instructions when migrating from 2003 > 2012 R2, but this method does not explain how to also transfer the 2003 server's name to the 2012 server. Can anyone help. Thanks..

Begging the question why would you want to. the rough process is:
    Add new DC (different name)
Unpromote old DC & remove account from domain
    Clean up AD
(may need to raise functional levels)
Rename new DC to old name

Check what other things are running on the domain as some applications may not like renaming

Would you happen to know if there is a full set of instructions online for your method, as these are great, but don't allow the name to be retained.. http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/...rver-2012.aspx
