Ok, I have an accounting department that wants 10 character passwords and everyone else wants 8. is there any way to have them exist in one domain? EDIT: we are running 2000 server

    NO!
Password and security policies are on a domain wide level only (can only be changed in a top level GPO).

You will need to either have:
    A) one password policy for the whole organisation (would accounts trade 8 chars for complex passwords?)

    B) a domain tree:

    XYZ.CORP (default security policy)
    .
    ACCOUNTS.XYZ.CORP (accounts security policy)

This would obviously have implications on the number of servers etc.
