  • AD Replication Errors: tombstone lifetime, Garbage Collected

    Hi,

Conducting an AD audit on an enterprise which consists of 3 DC's located in a central site; Primary DC ( DCR1 ; server2003) and two secondary DC's (DCR2; Server2008 and DCR3 Server 200.

    On running the

    "repadmin /replsummary /bysrc /bydest /sort:failures > failreport.csv" command on DCR1, i got the following output;

    Source DC | largest delta | fails/total %% | error

DCR3 | 59d.07h:03m:40s | 3 / 10 30 | (8614) The Active Directory cannot replicate with this server because the time since the last replication with this server has exceeded the tombstone lifetime.

DCR1 | >60 days | 3 / 10 30 (8614) | The Active Directory cannot replicate with this server because the time since the last replication with this server has exceeded the tombstone lifetime.

DCR2 | 56d.21h:51m:27s | 2 / 10 20 | (8606) Insufficient attributes were given to create an object. This object may not exist because it may have been deleted and already garbage collected.

    Destination DC | largest delta | fails/total %% | error

DCR3 | >60 days | 4 / 10 40 | (8614) The Active Directory cannot replicate with this server because the time since the last replication with this server has exceeded the tombstone lifetime.

DCR2 | 59d.07h:36m:22s | 3 / 10 30 | (8606) Insufficient attributes were given to create an object. This object may not exist because it may have been deleted and already garbage collected.

DCR1 | 20d.01h:00m:59s | 1 / 10 10 | (8614) The Active Directory cannot replicate with this server because the time since the last replication with this server has exceeded the tombstone lifetime.

Basically saying i have replication issues because of "tombstone" and "deleted object/Garbage".
Currently researching on ways to correct the problems.
    I'd appreciate any useful suggestions.
    Thanks.

Re: AD Replication Errors: tombstone lifetime, Garbage Collected

tombstoned objects have not been seen for over 180 days.

If it's a DC, you'll need to do a metadata clean up. demote both secondary domain controllers, then do the ntdsutil metadata clean up, and dns clean up.
Ensure the master domain controller is configured correctly and holds all the roles.

Re-promote the two secondary servers, one at a time. Wait for replication between each of them.
