  • AD Integrated DNS on child domain

    Hi

I have been running a single flat domain for years. For security requirements I have had to set up a child domain.
Normally when I install a new DC I make sure that the dns service is installed and when I dcpromo it creates an AD integrated copy of the internal DNS zone automatically.

I installed the first DC in the child domain (making sure that dns was installed) however this time the internal zone was not created on the child DC.
I do not plan to delegate the child dns zone to this DC as it is for a small site. I would however like an AD copy of the parent zone file on the child DC's dns server.

Has something gone amiss with the install?
I obviously have the option to manually add a primary AD integrated zone to this dns server, but will that copy the existing zone or will it create a new empty zone? Will that break my AD's DNS?

    Thanks for any help.
    Gordon

You need to change/look into the Zone replication scope.
