  • Remove Pinters and Faxes from start menu

We have a number of PCs in our company that need an application run which requires local administrative rights to run.

We have created a domain user account with the correct access, and locked down everything else except the printers and faxes in the start menu.
From here you can navagate to all drives and folders through the address bar.

How can this be removed through group policy, as there is no setting under user config\ admin temp\ start menu and taskbar

does the first response help you?

(then save the profile as a mandatory profile)

also.. if you're making someone a local admin, they can, if they know what they are doing, load a registry entry that re-enables your carefully crafted registry fix to disable the command prompt..

I have been looking in the registery and come across references to this key, but when I navagate to that location that key doesnt exist

What I have done now is to enable the following policy
      user config\ admin temp\ windows comp\ windows expl\
Hide these specified drives in My Computer

With this in place you cant see the drives or search for regedit but I'm still looking to hide Printers ad Faxes.

that link I provided wasn't a group policy reference - it's simply a part of the start menu options (which, admittedly, shold be configurable via GPO)

further down on that same page is an ADM template.
You could download or copy/paste the ADM template, and load that into your policy

I did realise that you were pointing me at the local registery on the pc's I'll be rolling this out to.

The registry key isnt on the machine, which suprised me a little.
