  • Is it possible to have a child domain DC "isolated" from the root domain?

    Hello,

I have a root domain, a child domain (with two DCs) and I have to set up on a remote site a third DC for the child domain.
The first 2 (child domain) DCs are obviously connected to the root domain.

Does the third remote DC absolutely need to communicate to the root DCs, or does replication work correctly the same?

In other words, should I configure the network connection to communicate only with the child domain's DCs, or also with the root domain's DCs?

    Thank you very much.

acctive directory and KCC are pretty good at working it out themselves usually....

however - in terms of network comms, firewalls and acls, yes. you need to allow communication both ways
