  • Is this possible? Extract SMTP addresses from multiple domains into SQL

    Hi all

I am wondering if something like this is possible - or maybe someone can think of an alternative.

Background to why I need to do this is: I am trialling Vamsoft ORF as recommeneded by sembee for my SMTP Gateway server (fantastic piece of software!) and everything is set except recipient validation.

This SMTP Gateway is a standalone machine, to whch I need to get a valid list of SMTP addresses from multiple AD's (assume 2003 and higher).

There are 3 ways to do this:

    1) Direct MS AD LDAP querying - Cannot use this as it only supports 1 AD.
    2) Text file - addresses must be in a single text file which is read on service startup only
    3) Live SQL Database Query

I want to use SQL - only for the fact that it performs a realtime SQL query to validate a recipient every time, so dynamic updates (to addresses) will work.

For this to work I need to somehow extract the SMTP addresses from various remote AD's, get them onto the SMTP server and imported into SQL - regularly/scheduled.

    Would something like this work:

A (vb?)script sitting on each GC server that:

    - Runs on a schedule
    - Extracts all SMTP Addresses into a text file
    - Uploads it onto an FTP location on the SMTP Gateway server

A SQL script on the SMTP Gateway Server would then be scheduled to import said files into the database

Only problem is, I have no idea how to do it Any clues/comments?

    TIA

    Hi,

Yes it's possible using powershell, exchange management shell and quest management shell.

You need to install Powershelll, Exchange ManagementShell and Quest AD tool (basically it more enhanced, you can do more in less time)
