  • Moving from .Local TDL to the Public TDL

What I want to achieve:I want to rename our TLD from .Local TLD to the Public TLD. Even thought the whole network is working find now but .Local TDL created many unexpected trouble during SharePoint 2007 and Office Communication Server 2007 installation and this will continue to give trouble in future.

Current main servers:we have AD 2003 Native mode with three physical locations. In the main location we have SharePoint 2007, Communication Server 2007, System Centre Essentials 2007, SQL 2008, blackberry enterprise server etc.
What information I have so far:
    1. This article http://www.petri.com/windows_2003_domain_rename.htm , where I couldn’t find any info what action I have to take for my Exchange, SharePoint, OCS, SCE 2007.
    2. Microsoft ‘s step-by-step guide is very good but has same problem as it was last updated in 2004, so it didn’t mention on Exchange, SharePoint, OCS, SCE 2007 download.microsoft.com/.../c/cfcbff04-97ca-4fca-9e8c-3a9c90a2a2e2/Domain-Rename-Procedure.doc
    My Questions:
    My questions are:

    1. What actions I have to take in terms of already running Exchange 2007, SharePoint 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 as I don't need to upgrad these servers?

    2. Which one will better, have a new forest which is the xxx.org.au (one one is xxx.local), set up trust between xxx.org.au and xxx.local and then migrate machines from one to the other or strait rename. In either way, can anyone tell me steps please?

Re: Moving from .Local TDL to the Public TDL

In my opinion I would leave it as it is and address the problems you are having with MOSS and OCS instead. What troubles excactly are you having with them and internal DNS names? And what more trouble are you excpecting?

If you still want to go for it, there are some info about rendom and exchange here: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...=domain+rename

Thanks for your reply but I am not to happy with the fact that there is NO real solution yet from Microsoft. At least, Not that I know.

I read lot of article where I saw people are in real trouble after they start remaing Domain with Exchange 2007.
Even Microsoft Doc http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925822/en-us said if you start your rename process and facing trouble with Exchange 2007 "To work around this issue, use Rendom.exe to rename the domain its original name.

So My question is : Is there a solution Microsoft released to address this problem?
