  • dcdiag /test:dns errors when extra nics are disabled

I have a domain with 2 DCs. One is 2003 R2 which is DC01, one was just demoted, upgraded to 2008 R2 and promoted. I am getting ready to demote the other 2003 R2 server and upgrade it and promote it. Before doing that I am running a dcdiag to make sure I don't have any errors and I'm getting an error on the connectivity test. I am no using IPv6 at all only v4. These two servers are on the same datacenter, on the same subnet, on the same switch.

    DC01 = 2003 R2
DC02 = 2008 R2, 2 broadcom nics teamed. Two dual port Intel nics without cables plugged in and disabled off.

On DC01 if I run dcdiag I pass all the tests. If I run dcdiag /s:dc02 I pass all the tests
On DC02 if I run dcdiag I get the error below.

    Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\DC02
    Starting test: Connectivity
    Message 0x621 not found.
Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your
    firewall settings.
    ......................... UTDC02 failed test Connectivity

I get the same error if i run dcdig /s:dc01

Now if i go into the network adapters and enable one of the Intel cards, which has no cable in it and no IP address assigned, and run the test again it passes both times.

One thing I have noticed is when the Intel NIC is disabled i get the error "Message 0x621 not found." And when it's enabled I get "Determining IP4 connectivity"

    Enabled:
    Doing initial required tests

    Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\DC02

    Starting test: Connectivity

    * Active Directory LDAP Services Check
    Determining IP4 connectivity
    * Active Directory RPC Services Check
    ......................... DC02 passed test Connectivity

    Disabled:
    Doing initial required tests

    Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\DC02

    Starting test: Connectivity

    * Active Directory LDAP Services Check
    Message 0x621 not found.
Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your

    firewall settings.

    ......................... DC02 failed test Connectivity

Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? That's a lot of info i hope i explained it clearly. If you need anymore info let me know.

      Hi,

Can you check the binding orders of your disabled NIC? Active needs to be on top
      Thanks & Regards

If that NIC is part of the Team, then either don't disable it and keep the Team or break the team and disable the extra NIC.
