  • Demoting first domain controller

Those of you that have followed my migration from Windows 2000 to 2003 will probably have expected this question.

Im about to demote the first domain controller in the domain after promoting my first 2003 DC. The 2003 box has all 5 FMSO roles transfered to it and is a GC. Im about to remove the GC role from our first DC then next week im going to demote it....

I did hear on a course once that this is a bad idea.... is it? Anything else i should do to prepare for this?

There is nothing special about the first DC, especially if you have moved the roles well on time. Make sure no clients depend directly on it (DNS) and you should be able to demote just fine.
