  • DNS after demoting Dc

    Hi,

I just demoted a DC and everything worked fine no errors or problems.

So I waited about 30mins and sites and services had updated so removed server from there (NTDS had been automatically removed).

I then checked DNS, under the Name Service it's still showing the name but the IP is UNKNOWN then under _MSDCS there is still loads of references to the server. Will they go after a few hours or doI manually need to remove them?

    Thanks

If they're still around after a replication cycle then it will remain until manually deleted or scavenged.

          Have you scavenged DNS?

A successful demotion should remove any corresponding SRV records, have you tried a metadata clean-up using ntdsutil?
