  • Are subgroups supported in AD 2003?

    Hi guys,

I hate to ask this, it seems like the answer ought to be easy to find, but I've searched the web, MS KBs, TechNet, and the Petri knowledge base and haven't found the answer.

I have two global security groups in OUs under the same domain. I want to make group 1 a member of group 2. When I open the Member Of tab on the properties of either group, I am only able to add it to default groups (Domain Admins and such). I can't add it to any group I have created. It doesn't matter what OU my groups are in, Active Directory won't find any group I've created. I can add users to any group just fine.

Can anyone help clear this up? Thanks,

    Adam

It depends on your domain functional level. The default Windows 2000 mixed doesn't allow group nesting. If you raise the level you'll be able to nest but you can't have any NT 4.0 DCs.

Thanks aquadodo. Now that you explain it I remember reading about this somewhere, just didn't make the connection. Thanks again,
