  • Need advice on AD DNS

I have one parent root domain: a.com (IP : 192.168.0.1)
and one child domain: b.a.com (IP :192.168.0.2)

I need advice about DNS client settings on both of the DC ??

    a.com
    preferred DNS 192.168.0.1

    b.a.com
    preferred DNS : 192.168.0.1
    alternate DNs: 192.168.0.2

Is it fine...because I have read in some docs that preferred DNS server IP on child domain must be of parent domain address....is it true ???

What if I install one ADC in my child domain ......

Which DNS client setting must be configured on ADC created in child domain ?

Re: Need advice on AD DNS

We have a similar setup to this and use the local DNS server as the preferred DNS server. This stops WAN traffic and slow logons for us due to the forest root beiing in the US.

If your DNS is AD Integrated your records will update across the AD structure.

      Thanks for replying....

Can you please briefly tell me the steps require for installing and configuring DNS on child domain?

I read somewhere about delegation of zone from parent domain to child domain...Is it necessary?

Thanks for providing me this valuable information.....

I have read somewhere about delegation of DNS zone from parent to child..

          http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q255248

Above link says something about delegation of dns zone to child...

Is it required for configuring child domain ????

Re: Need advice on AD DNS

create stub zone instead of delegation

            Refer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291382
