  • slow logon process

We are using single DC at our location which consists of 2 GB of RAM and our network has 100 users. User complain slow log in process which takes lot of time to logon to domain (approx 6-8 min.). This is our local network. No remote users.

How can i check AD performance and cause of this slow login ?

    Re: slow logon process

I would start by looking at Group Policy using GPMC. Look for any old scripts or GPOs running that aren't relevant to users or computers anymore. You can further check the processed GPOs by running gpresult /z on one of the problem machines and then analysing those GPOs.

Has this started recently? Have you rolled out any new software or updates?

What part of the logon process you notice the delay more?
Is it when Loading windows, detecting network settings, applying computer policies, user policies or other?

        Re: slow logon process

On some systems it takes a lot of time while loading computer policies and on some, it hangs on network policies.

        What shall I do ?

How can I use performance monitor on DC for this delay?

Which counters on Performance monitor can give a better idea for this delay?

          How is your DNS setup???

Primarily slow logons are generally caused by DNS issues.
