  • The Best way removing Computers from AD

    Hi

Someone told me that its also oke to delete the computer form his OU
and when there is replication all the information related to that computer like SID will be removed.
Sound strange for me so here is my question

What is the difference between demoting a pc form AD (the right way by putting the computer in from the domain into a workgroup) and deleting (right clicking) the computer? are there leftovers in the database(register) by rightclicking and delete the computer even there will be replication?

If you demote the computer will the computername still be in the computer OU?
Meaning that even you demote the computer you still have to delete the computer account?

    Thanks in advance

If you change the computer from domain to workgroup, the computer account will be removed with it (provided the PC is connected to the domain at the time)

If you delete the computer account the PC will still think it is in the domain but the domain will not want to talk to the PC

      Oke
So there are leftovers/garbage in the database of the AD by deleting

No. Either method completely removes any trace of the object in AD.

But deleting the computer account may leave garbage on the client PC

True, but as that's not what he was asking I didn't mention it. Thanks for adding it so that the OP is aware of it.
