  • Need to create separate forest for testing environment

    Hello everyone,

I need to create a testing environment (AD + Exchange). I wanted to run it by you guys and ask for feedback/advice. This new environment will be on the same network as the production environment.

My goal is to have a separate AD environment for testing.

If I create another AD forest (Win2003) and I don't setup any sort of trust relationship between the two forests, then the two forests will not "talk", correct? I don't want the 2 forests communicating with each other at all.

If anyone has a better idea, please let me know. Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jay

That's correct. The forests will not communicate with each other. Have you considered or are you considering using virtualization for your test?

And why not moving it to a seperate VLAN?

This would be a much easier option IMO.

Yes, I'll be creating this environment on a production VMWare ESX server.

I was going to create a new VLAN on VMWare and assign only the test servers to this VLAN. This VLAN will not be added to the trunk. This should isolate it from the rest of the network if my understanding is correct.
