    Hi All,

    I'm checking the traffic on my network and I look that microsoft-ds protocol (445) talks with differents ports as example below "Portas Destino"

    Anybody know tell me what does means these range ?

    PS: ports below never repeat

    There are much more ports , but I put some ports for example....

    Hi,

    As far as I know, Port 445 is used by loads of services that used to rely on the netBIOS which was the carrier of choice for SMB. Since the netbios carries a security risk and is vulnerable to all sorts of attacks, MS is using SMB directly over TCP/IP with TCP as the transport protocol of choice and the port 445 was assigned for these communications.
    Now due to the very nature of TCP communications (Three way Handshake) in which a dynamic port is negotiated, you end up with different port connections established. As long as these connections are contained within your LAN and TCP port 445 is not exposed to the internet I wouldn't worry to much.
