  • mismatched guids

so, this morning I noticed no netlogon share was present.. some further research lets me see that our two DCs have different DNS version numbers.

So while playing around, I ran replmon and checked the status report and noted this particular irregularity (I assume it is)

for OtherDC, the ServerGUID and replication Database GUID are both the same, but for the XXXDC02 server, they are different. I assume this is NOT normal ?

    USN: 3595449
My feeling is that the USN is a sequence number, and should more or less be the same ?

Am I thinking/feeling correctly that something is just a little bit wrong here ?

I thought GUIDS were unique numbers to the machine. Ala MAC Addrees?

This is normal if the XXXDC02 was restored from a backup. Restore process changes the invocationID (database GUID) which causes other DCs to treat it as a new DC with regards to what changes have been replicated to/from it.

USNs are specific/local to DC and are not shared between DCs. This is normal.

what is the output of "repadmin /replsum" ? Does it show any replication errors ?

        Re: mismatched guids

nope.. doesn't show any errors when i run replsum..

I suspect I have an issue with permissions on netlogon somewhere
Or i'm just randomly stabbing in the dark.. i'll get back to it
