  • Replace Windows DHCP with Unix (Was: DHCP question)

    Greetings,
I have DHCP running on one of my windows 2003 servers. It is part of my Active Directory. Can I retire this DHCP server and bring online a unix based DHCP server without causing my AD to go nuts ?

    thanks.

    Re: DHCP question

Yes. Just make sure not to start them at the same time if serving the same scope, and that the proper DNS Server settings are being pushed to clients.

And ideally, set your w2k3 DHCP lease time to a day for renewal. You can then disable it and then bring up the other DHCP overnight. Once you are happy with the new DHCP, you can then remove it off the w2k3 machine. If not, it's simply a case of turning DHCP off and then enabling on the w2k3 box and investigating further.
