  • Password Protected Screen Saver / Active Directory Issue

I have setup a group policy within our Active Directory with the following password protected screen saver:

    Administrative Templates
    Control Panel/Display
    Pollicy Setting
Password protect the screen saver Enabled
    Screen Saver Enabled
    Screen Saver executable name Enabled
    Screen Saver executable name scrnsave.scr
    Policy Setting
    Screen Saver timeout Enabled
Number of seconds to wait to enable the Screen Saver
    Seconds: 900

Pretty basic stuff... I have this applied to three machines 2 of which are Win XP SP3 and one is SP2
    .
Bottom line, the policy is not working. I have done this in the past without any issues.

Have you looked to see if any policies are enforced that are overriding the policy or is inheritance disabled depending where you have paced your policy? Have you tried a gpresult on one of the computers or used RSOP in the GPMC?

This is a "User Configuration" setting and needs to be applied to user objects.

      Cheers

Thanks L4ndy. I should have mentioned users.

In which case, are you using Loopack processing on a policy?

RSOP you mentioned, would have highlighted it but i was trying to make it easier for the OP.

Try running a GPRESULT in verbose mode from one of the client machines....see what that brings up

Set the timeout to 10 seconds and try again. Does is still not work? Does scrnsave.scr exist?

Re: Password Protected Screen Saver / Active Directory Issue

If I do a gpresult /v I don't see anything about the policy listed.

I gave authenticated users and domain computers full permissions to the policy object itself as well as the OU.

                  Yes scrnsave.scr does exist.
