  • Mapped drives show as disconnected.

all servers are windows 2003 x64 Standard Ed.

I have two DC's in one Active Directory & for months now I have a login script that has been working just fine. But now some XP pro PC's and Vista PC's show the mapped drives as disconnected but when a user double clicks the drive it works just fine, but the Red X won't go away.

my script is pretty simple and it's in the Sysvol, under scripts...

    NET USE Y: \\servera\SALES /PERSISTENT:NO
    NET USE X: \\serverb\ACCOUNTING /PERSISTENT:NO

I've also changed the reg on both share servers under: HKLM\System\currentcontrolset\service\lanmanworkst ation\parameters & lanmanserver\parameters

but no luck, still Red X

As I recall if the mapped drive is there when the script is run the script will not re-map it. What I normally do for such scripts is add a delete command first. This has the added benefit of removing any drives the user maps themselves to letters that the script should map.

    NET USE /DELETE Y:
    NET USE /DELETE X:
    NET USE Y: \\servera\SALES /PERSISTENT:NO
    NET USE X: \\serverb\ACCOUNTING /PERSISTENT:NO

thanks, I did edit my script, but still no luck...

      I also re-booted both AD's.

ok now I have a new problem. I created a new user, entered all the correct info and now my logon.bat script wont' work at all. If i copy and paste the script to the users desktop and run it from there I can see all my network drives. Re-boot and all the drives go away.

My Group Policy doesn't seem to be working properly. Other users are having the same issue once the reboot.

Have you done some basic Group Policy testing (RSOP and GPRESULT) to check if the GPO which executes the logon script is being run??

New GPO, and not the default one.

ran ROSP and I have a red X under Administrator on bmp-ad1 - rosp:

                here is the error msg:

                riday, March 06, 2009 10:13:02 AM

Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below.
The system cannot find the path specified.

Note: Due to the GP Core failure, none of the other Group Policy components processed their policy. Consequently, status information for the other components is not available.
                Additional Information:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={6AC1786C-016F-11D2-945F-00C04fB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=metrohmusa, DC=com. Re: Mapped drives show as disconnected.

One common problem for Scripts not running when applied by Group Policy is because a slow link has been detected. If I remember correctly I think folder redirection is also affected.

A fix for that was to edit the GPO in question and to allow processign over a slow network connection:

Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy.

                  Look for Scripts policy processing.
Double click on Scipts policy processing and select Enabled. Also select Allow processing across a slow network connection in the box and press OK.

Havign said that the output from your GPRESULT seems to indicate a slow link wasn't detected.

I would still change the setting, restart the workstation you're testing on and see if it makes a difference.

Did you amend the slow link detection...or possibly even set it to 0 to disable it as a test?

slow link is enabled, and the script won't run at all.
