  • Admin can print, user cant

    Hello guys,

    I'm experiencing the same problem...

Have you able to find a solution? any suggestions?

In my case I can print with domain admin but can't with domain user

security permissions on my printer are:

    Administrators: Print/Manage printers/Manage documents
    Power Users: Print/Manage printers/Manage documents
    Everyone: Print
    Creator Owner: Manage documents

I've just added Users to Print/Manage documents as well but no luck

    any idea?

M-in - can you explain a bit more about the issue, specifically what the user experiences. Do they get failed prints, error messages etc? Anything in the logs etc?

Please read this before you post:

        Hello AndyJG247,

        Thank you for you reply.

I posted the question in another thread but Ossian decided to create new one and move here.

        so... the problem is:

I have a printer installed directly(locally) on one of the client's computer - HP LJ 1018
The printer has been shared and the user can print normally... but when I'm trying to print from another client computer the job stuck and don't run until I restart the Print Spool on the user PC which the printer is attached to.
When I login as domain administrator I can print without any issues.

I've downloaded the latest drivers from HP site, completely removed old drivers and reinstalled with new one but no luck.

Domain environment: AD, Windows 2003 R2
Client computers: Windows XP Pro SP3

          Found a temporary solution.

Unchecked Enable bidirectional support and was able to print

You should check the permissions on the %windir%\temp directory, and also on the %windir%\system32\spool\printers directory.
If this does not help, try running ProcMon ( and see which NTFS permissions are missing.
If you see that no one gets Access Denied, this might be a security right issue.
Configure you machine to Audit Privilege Use failures, then, log on with the non-administrator user and try to print. After that, log back on with your account and check the security log to see if you have failure audits in the security log.
If you do have any, post it back here and I'll try to help you.
