  • Software Restrictions

Does anyone have a good link about software restrictions in GPO? I can't exactly figure out how to use it and the Windows Help doesn't help much.
    thanks.

    And another question:
How can I restrict users from saving files on the Desktop by using GPO.
    Thanks

Regarding the first one: I do not quite understand what are you trying to restrict ? Maybe an example ?

Why just not change the permissions on the %USERPROFILE%\Desktop folder ?

you can grab xcacls from http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...g/xcacls-o.asp, place it in the NETLOGON share on the DC and then add something like this to the user logon script:
      Code:
      %LOGONSERVER%\Netlogon\xcacls "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop" /P "%USERDOMAIN%\%USERNAME%":RX Administrators:F System:F /Y
Tell me if it works for you. You have just gave me a nusty idea how to punish users that do not behave

In group policy there is a section called SOFTWARE RESTRICTION which lets you restrict a defined software from running.
I've already found the answer in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/rstrplcy.asp

Still looking for an answer for the first question.
        Thanks
