  • backup AD Server

    Greetings,
I only have the primary AD domain controller. I have yet to install a member server (to act as a backup).

How should I backup the AD domain controller to ensure I can recover if it has a hardware failure ?

I don't even want to think of the mess if it died.

    thanks,
    Darryl

      Yeah,
but its like a fire hose. A ton of data, but I was looking for responses containing info about how individuals actually did it. Wasn't really looking for a MSDN document describing how one could back up the AD server, and include several individual files, etc.

Sorry, I should have been much clearer in my original post.

      thanks for the link.

if you want it simple , then use NTbackup and backup the SystemState and the System volume (Usually C: Drive), that's it.
and to restore the Domain Controller use this:

The document is how to create an additional domain controller. it is nothing to do with how to backup the critical files on an existing domain controller
