  • Account Disabled while try to access the shared folders

    Hi

I have a probelm in few workstations in my doamin.

    My domain setup is

    Doamin Controller : windows 2003 R2
    Workstations : windows XP proffesional(SP2).

We have a local administrator privillaged account called "support" in every system.

    Take an example

system A and system B both are join into domain also they have a local administrative account called "support".

when i am trying to access a shared folder of "system A" from "system B" using the "support" user account. The account itself got disabled.

    Note :
    1. In both systems the support user account have the same password.

    2. This problem occurs only when the system is added into domain if we remove the machine from domain works fine.

    3. Only few systems in the domain having this problem not all the systems.

Any one have idea about why the account got disabled?
    Regards,
    Venkatesan S

Do you mean disabled, or locked out?

Account disablement is NEVER done by the OS - it's a manual action.

I can only suggest that you try entadm's suggestion; if that doesn't help then you would need to go to each system affected and change the "support" account's password to the same one again, just to make sure. Also, does your app/script/drive mapping specify the server name before the account name? i.e. serverA\support - or does it just have "support"? I would ensure that you specify the server name - it avoids confusion.

A better way would be to use a DOMAIN account (domain user) and add it to the local "Administrators" group on each system. If there are many systems, I would use a GPO and specify the domainA\support account as a member of BUILTIN\Administrators group in the "Restricted Groups" security option in the GPO. Remember that you need to specify ALL accounts which should be a member of local admins as the Restricted Groups policy REPLACES group membership, NOT adds to it.

            Hi Stone,

I have checked the LAN Manager Authentication Level on both machines they are same only.

I want the "support" user account as it contain lots of data.

I have installed account lockout XP tool in the machine also enable the net logon debug, auditing.

            Waiting for the logs

            Any other ideas.

I don't understand what you mean - user accounts don't contain data - except about the user.

                  Hi,

We are using that "support" user to access lot of shares, also its not possible to change that account.

Re: Account Disabled while try to access the shared folders

Maybe ALockout.dll (from the Account Lockout and Management Tools) can help to discover the problem?

Have you changed the password while you are using the same account for services?
