  • User and Ristribution Reports from Active Directory

    Hi All

I need to get reports based on Users and Exchange distribution List: "Member Of"

    -One domain set up
    -Windows 2000 with Exchange 2000

I currently export the USERs to text then import tot Excel and clean up
And for the Exchange distribution List: I do that manually
Its a seriously time staking endevour. ANyway I can stramline the process?

How do I set up to recieve a report of all users/ and new users added
and Who are in what distribution list. (example I want people in the distrabution list for vpn and so forth
I have about 20 distrabution list.

Any suggestions on how I would accomplish this task without manually doing it??

    Thanks in Advance

There are many ways to do it. Mine is to use the dsquery and dsget commands from the W2003 admin tools.

To obtain a list of all groups that a user is a direct member of:

dsquery user -name bravored | dsget user -memberof

Or if you insist in having the netbios names:

dsquery user -name bravored | dsget user -memberof | dsget group -samid

    You get the point ...

      Ok.
I understand you can do it one member at atime?
Is there any other alternative way to find out all users.
And all users catagorized under different groups:
ex: user james: is in vpn, webmasters, storytelling, teachers, etcetc groups

      Thanks

Have a look at the tools, they can do pretty much all that is needed. For instance, all members of a group:

        > And all users catagorized under different groups

dsquery group -name vpn | dsget group -members
