  • Parent Child Domain Replication Query

In our AD environment we follow a single forest model.
There is a forest a.com and this is the parent.
    b.com is the child.

Domain Controller in a.com was the first Domain Controller in the enterprise.
Currently we have only 1 DC in a.com and in b.com we have 5 DCs.

The DN Master,Schema Master,RID,Infrastructure and PDC Emulator role is held by DC1.a.com.

The RID, Infrastructure and PDC Emulator role is held by DC1.b.com for b.com domain

Assuming I make changes in DNS in b.com, as per the parent child transitive trust, the changes should be also applied to the DNS in a.com as all our DNS are Active Directory Integrated.

But the DNS changes are not replicated to a.com DNS Server.

When we use Active Directory Sites and Services to check replication between the Parent and Child we are not able to replicate and says RPC Service is not available.

What might be the problem ?

Can you ping the respective servers from each other??

Is there a firewall between them??

Is DNS setup to be AD integrated??

Re: Parent Child Domain Replication Query

Our Primary DNS Server is a Linux Server where forwarders have been configured to forward requests to Active Directory Integrated DNS Domain Controllers in case of Service Requests.

The Windows Server 2003 DCs are all Active Directory Integrated DNS Servers.

The firewalls have been correctly configured to allow traffic between the DCs.

I am able to also access the NETLOGON shares across all the DCs at the forest and domain level.
