Re: "Domain not available" error while adding clients

Can you ping the server by name rather than IP?
Your client should have your local DNS server(s) as its only DNS entries. Are there any errors in your event log on the server?
    cheers

Re: "Domain not available" error while adding clients

      Hi Andy,
actually sometimes it works but sometime we need to add the primary and connection DNS suffix in the TCP/IP settings only then it responds and only after doing this we get able to add the machine in the domain
Sometimes even after doing this we face the same domain error then after trying 3-4 times machine get add into the domain.

      Thanx for the quick response

please let me know if you need any other information

You can add DNS suffix using a gpo but you shouldn't generally need to really. How many domains in your forest? is this a child?
        cheers

Re: "Domain not available" error while adding clients

This is most likely a DNS issue.

If you are trying to add to the domain using the FQDN (i.e. microsoft.com or microsoft.local) then you must also be able to resolve the domain name from the client. To verify that you can resolve the FQDN of your domain:

            1. open a command prompt
            2. issue the nslookup command
            3. type in your AD Domain name (i.e microsoft.com or microsoft.local)
            4. this should return the ip addresses of your domain controllers, if it does not then you need to troubleshoot the dns issues

Another option for if your clients are in the same subnet as your domain controllers is to add the machine to the domain using just the Domains Netbios name (i.e. microsoft) this bypasses the initial need for DNS lookups. It is however recommended that you use the first method because so much in AD relies on DNS. The first method allows you to verify that dns is properly functioning.
Technology is only as good as those who use it

This is the first DC in the forest but its name is somthing like that(micro.tech.com) and FQDn is xyz.micro.tech.com where xyz is the name of the server. Even sometimes i faced problem after adding DNS suffix also .
I have checked everything according to me bt i am unable to find the issue
sometime able to ping micro.tech.com bt sometime need to add dns suffix and sometime to add a machine to domain need to disable/enable nic .

please-please help me to out of this .

NOte:-sometimes i am able to add the machine in the domain easily without getting

According to this information the domain is not the root domain, but a domain within a forest below the root domain. How many DC's do you have?

Have you used an image on this machine? If so, remove it from domain, delete domain computer account and run NewSid. then add it again and see if you get the same error msg.

I experienced a similar issue in the past and the above cured it.

                      Hope this helps

Re: "Domain not available" error while adding clients

                        HI

i am using image to install xp but while preparing that image we didn't add that machine to domain . we always add the machine to domain after applying the image
so there is nothing to change the SID.
i think if the problem got related to SID then i could never add my machine to domain
but as i told earlier that i can able to add the machine to domain after a very tough struggle.

                        Thanx for ur reply dear.
Hope for some other helpful Fix from ur side.

                          Do you sysprep the machine?
I had a similar problem and the cause was a duplicated SID
                          cheers

What does nslookup show you when you type servername.micro.tech.com

This sounds very much like DNS is at fault as stated before.

Check that the PTR records in the reverse dns zone are there and configured correctly.

Check also event logs for any DNS errors.

Re: "Domain not available" error while adding clients

I am not using sysprep. Actually i am using third party tool for the image.

                              like ghost.

whenever i try to ping or nslookup the server it didn't resolve the ip to FQDN
but after that when i add DNS suffix then it resole the ip
even sometime i was unable to contact to my domain i.e sometime i can ping the IP of my DC but unable to ping the FQDN of the DC

I think the this can help you all to resolve the issue that all time i able to ping my DC with IP but sometime or you can say mostly i am not able to ping it with FQDN

                              Thanx for your reply.
