  • Problems setting up child domain

    Hi,

I am trying to set up the first dc in a child domain in another country. Starting point is windows server 2003 in workgroup, with dns pointing to dns of root domain (root domain is LUNET, child domain should become IDJK.LUNET).

All goes well up until the point the wizard starts configuring AD, then I see for a second the message "searching for a domain controller for lunet", and then the process failes: "A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain lunet that contained an account for this computer. Make the computer a member of a workgroup then rejoin the domain before retrying the promotion.
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

Any help is very much welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

You have to join that computer to the domain prior to promoting it.
After it is joined, run DCPROMO again.
