  • default Domain policy Error

    Dear All

    i have an error appears too much at all DCs in customers environment

    Application Log error
    ===============
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Userenv
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 1096
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: DC name
    Description:
    Windows cannot access the registry policy file, \\Domain name\sysvol\Domain\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol. (The data is invalid. )

    after open GPMC.msc

    1- search for this policy GUID 31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9, i found that it's the Default Domain policy

    2-selecting this policy and got to setting tab
    computer configuration -> Administrative template
    An error has occurred while collecting data for Administrative Templates.
    The following errors were encountered:
    The file "\\ServerName\sysvol\Domain Name\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol" is not in a valid format. The file might be corrupt. Use Group Policy Object Editor to reconfigure the settings in this extension.

    3- trying to right click the policy and choose Edit but the following error message appear
    "" Failed to open group policy object you may not have appropriate rights ""

    so it's appear @ all DCs and generate too much errors every hour

    Re: default Domain policy Error

    DCGPOFIX will enable you to revert back to the default policy.
    It goes without saying to keep the default policies untouched, unless you need to modify settings applied by those policies. For new policies, create a new policy and apply it to the appropiate level.

        Re: default Domain policy Error

        Yes you will, it revert to default domain policy to its origonal settings.
        You could however duplicate (copy) your policy. Than you will have a copy of your current policies. When you revert the default GPO, you can see the difference.
