  • NTFRS problem

I went through some thread over here which explains how to solve problem related to ntfrs.

I have 1 domain server and 2 domain controllers in my environment. All 3 are upgraded from Windows 2000 to 2003 .

I am getting lots of ntfrs error from 1 DC. I just verified the version of ntfrs file in all servers and found that the server from where ntfrs error is originating has different version of ntfrs from the rest of servers.

    Version I found on 3 servers is > 502.3790.3959
    Version I found on 1 server is > 502.3790.1830

The problem is due to different version ?
I am also not able to start DFS service on the same server which throwing ntfrs errors.

All servers have Windows server 2003 service pack 2. Any solution ?

    Regards,
    AmeY.

    Re: NTFRS problem

It seems that FRS replication is broken....

Could you post few error events....?

      Re: NTFRS problem

Same event posted by some guy here and you asked him to do registry settings. I did registry settings but still same errors.

[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name dc1.mydomain.com from this computer.
[2] FRS is not running on dc1.mydomain.com.
[3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.

This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection has been established.

        Re: NTFRS problem

This can likely be a DNS issue.

have you checked the DNS resolution on this server?

        1. can you resolve the other three servers from the problem servers?
        2. can you resolve the problem server from the three other servers?
        3. are there any other dns related issues?

          Re: NTFRS problem

The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from DC1 to DC2 for c:\winnt\sysvol\domain using the DNS name DC1.mydomain.com. FRS will keep retrying.
Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.
Above error I see on my domain server which is DC2 . Event ID: 13508

Few hours ago I removed DNS server role from DC1 and shifted to DC3. DNS service has been disabled on DC1. Also removed Global Catalog server from DC1.

Now I am attempting to demote DC1 using DCPROMO but this also not working. It shows that entries removing and shows window saying "Access Denied". I had this problem before too when I was trying to add a new member server [ i.e. Windows server 2003 machine] as a DC.
