  • AD removal

    Hello,
just making sure i've read the appropriate info on removal of a 2000 dc.

i have transfered all GC and FSMO to the new 2003 DC and it has been running well for about a month. the old 2000 DC was off for that time... but now we'd like to remove it from AD. somewhere i read about Tombstoned servers ... is it too long for a successful demotion of this 2000 DC?

making sure i have the first check box 'un-checked' will allow the AD to remain on the 2003 server, correct. i'm just making sure.

    thanks
    great site!!!

You have to use ntdsutil if the server is permanently offline
Lookup : ntdsutil, remove domaincontroller, metadata cleanup

        - Switch it back on before the tombstone period ends.
        - Make sure that replication is working again without any problems
        - Demote the old server by using DCpromo.
