  • Replication issues with one Win2003 Srv

    My event log on server CRS-DC is filling up with the following:

    Event ID: 1865
    Event ID: 1311
    Event ID: 1566

    Event ID 1865:
    The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) was unable to form a complete spanning tree network topology. As a result, the following list of sites cannot be reached from the local site.

    Sites:
    CN=WetherillPark,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl, DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Clayton,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=sig net,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Hobart,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=sign et,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Perth,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=signe t,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Dandenong,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=s ignet,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Mansfield,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=s ignet,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=Adelaide,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=si gnet,DC=com,DC=au
    CN=BaulkhamHills,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl, DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au
    Event ID 1311:
    The Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) has detected problems with the following directory partition.

    Directory partition:
    CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au

    There is insufficient site connectivity information in Active Directory Sites and Services for the KCC to create a spanning tree replication topology. Or, one or more domain controllers with this directory partition are unable to replicate the directory partition information. This is probably due to inaccessible domain controllers.
    Event ID 1566:
    All domain controllers in the following site that can replicate the directory partition over this transport are currently unavailable.

    Site:
    CN=Tennyson,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=si gnet,DC=com,DC=au
    Directory partition:
    CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au
    Transport:
    CN=IP,CN=Inter-Site Transports,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=sig net,DC=com,DC=au
    I can't figger out why the server is not replicating. It seems the last successful replication was 24th July 2007.

    I was thinking of demoting and promoting back but when I try to demote, I get the error "This domain controller is a Global Catalog server......"

    Here is a list of all GCs on the domain:

    C:\>dsquery server -domain gmp.signet.com.au -isgc

    hello
    0x219e means ERROR_DS_INSUFFICIENT_ATTR_TO_CREATE_OBJECT

    i think you are in lingering objects situation....
    demotion could be good and easy way

    cheers

      Re: Replication issues with one Win2003 Srv

      Further info on this problem.....

      Running Replmon shows that this DC is replicating with other DCs BUT, not CD=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au. All other naming contexts are OK.

      Note that we have two domains in our forest, GMP.SIGNET.COM.AU & SCL.SIGNET.COM.AU of which CRS-DC is the DC for the GMP domain and is the only GMP DC for its site.

      Why is it replicating all naming contexts except that of the other domain's Configuration data???

        Re: Replication issues with one Win2003 Srv

        hello,

        what is the OS for the DCs?

        force replication for the configuration partion :==>
        repadmin /add CN=Configuration,DC=scl,DC=signet,DC=com,DC=au fqdn_CRS-DC
        fqdn_DAN-DC
        what is the output ?
        if you try inverting DC names?

        you can also try to create some manual link between CRS-DC and other sites
        ==> use sites and services console

        did you get an dns errors on event logs?
        did you block some on the firewall that are preventing rpc connections?

        but first check output from repadmin /add

        cheers

        Miguel

          Re: Replication issues with one Win2003 Srv

          Thanks Migueg,

          It was a lingering object issue. Once I removed the objects from the servers, it started replicating OK. Thanks.
