    Can anyone confirm which method Active Directory uses to generate object GUIDs?

    I'm guessing its RFC 4122 version 4 (random number version).

    Yep... Till W2K they used to generate v1 GUIDs till someone showed that this could lead to leaking your MAC address to the outside world. Since then they are using V4 with pseudo-random seed.
    The API call responsible for the GUID creation is coCreateGuid which in turn calls UuidCreate RPC function:
