  • 'User logon name' blank in Account tab of AD

    Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2000 that is running AD for a domain. I added 1500 users by way of script (sample posted below), but they are unable to login. I checked the account information and found that th User Logon Name portion to be blank. The username is showing up under the name for pre-windows 2000 machines.

Is there a way for me to script the username into there?

    Name Type Password

    user501,User,passwrd
    user502,User,passwrd
    user503,User,passwrd
    user504,User,passwrd

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

if you began use that users in the production, you gonna use dsmod

    http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true

if not, make it easier by making new script with new users by dsadd
    http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...6b54b1033.mspx

you can use net user after all, but take a look here

Thank you Dr. Kernel for the tip. I was actually looking to modify 1500 users at once. From what I read, the dsmod and dsadd are for a single user change.

      Appreciate the help!

well, as far as i know you can make use of dsmod and dsadd for multiple users by putting the command in a text file and edit in it, but i didn't done it before

well, you still have options to work with, did you tried csvde and ldifde tools ?

Dr Kernel is quite right; you need to use DSMOD (or some VBS function like it) within a script. A script will modify one user at a time but it enables automation in that it will repeat the action for every user account it is told to find...

          You need a scripter!

Thanks for the wonderful tips! I really do need to learn scripting, as the manual changes are just too labor-intensive and time wasteful.

Appreciate the share of knowledge. I will try to share what little I know.
