  • Connecting Computer to Domain

I am trying to connect an outside computer to my domain, by changing the computer name settings. I am getting the following error. My server controlles five different IP address. Would this cause a problem with the active directory? The DNS manager automaticly setup (A) records for all five IP.

DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain xxxxx.net:

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.xxxxx.net

The following domain controllers were identified by the query:

    xxxxx.xxxxx.net

Common causes of this error include:

    - Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.

    - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.

    Hi Joe,
Can I ask what you mean by "an outside computer"? Is there a firewall in between? Blocking port 389?

    Also the response

The following domain controllers were identified by the query:

    xxxxx.xxxxx.net
This is pointing to the correct server?

By outside computer I mean, I have a company hosting my server in Texas. My office is in California, both locations have firewalls. Port 389 is not open. I am also using Microsoft CRM. Do you know what ports this software uses?

          Re: Connecting Computer to Domain

As you ask what ports another app uses I assume you know to try allowing LDAP traffic through your firewalls between these two sites and I won't mention it.

Opening the ports fixed the problem. Thank you for your help.
