  • Creating User Accounts

    Hello all,

    I have been thrown in the deep end at work and asked to create approximately 800 user accounts through Windows 2003 Server. Since I am new to this I was wondering if anyone had any hints/tips on how to go about this and also if anyone knows any good links that gives you a detailed instructions on how to do this that would be very helpful!

    Hopefully someone can help me!!

      They are real user accounts. For a staff group or around 500 people. Any ideas?

        You can create an Excel spreadsheet with all the users and import it using csvde.exe or you can script the account creation while using a file (or excel) as the source of usernames.

            Scripting example:
            http://www.tech-geeks.org/article.ph...40308171332896

            As for csvde.exe:

            Code:
            C:\Documents and Settings\antid0t>csvde -f c:\antid0t.csv -d ou=test,ou=accounts,dc=antid0t,dc=net -n -l dn,sn,givenname,samaccountname,displayname,objectclass -r "(&(objectcategory=person)(objectclass=user))"
            Now I have a CSV file I can use as example.
            Below is the contents of the output file:
            Code:
            DN,objectClass,sn,givenName,displayName,sAMAccountName
            "CN=test,OU=test,OU=Accounts,DC=antid0t,DC=net",user,Teverovsky,Guy,test,test
            All I need to do now is add some raws with other users and import the file into AD using csvde (this time in import mode):

            Code:
            DN,objectClass,sn,givenName,displayName,sAMAccountName
            "CN=test222,OU=test,OU=Accounts,DC=antid0t,DC=net",user,Teverovsky(#222),Guy,test222,test222
            "CN=test333,OU=test,OU=Accounts,DC=antid0t,DC=net",user,Teverovsky(#333),Guy,test333,test333
            And importing the above file:
            Code:
            C:\Documents and Settings\antid0t>csvde -v -i -f c:\antid0t.csv
            Connecting to "(null)"
            Logging in as current user using SSPI
            Importing directory from file "c:\antid0t.csv"
            Loading entries
            2: CN=test222,OU=test,OU=Accounts,DC=antid0t,DC=net
            Entry modified successfully.
            3: CN=test333,OU=test,OU=Accounts,DC=antid0t,DC=net
            Entry modified successfully.
            2 entries modified successfully.

            The command has completed successfully

            But frankly speaking, I like more the link I gave at the beginning of the post
