  • Changing IP address on 2003 AD server

I have a 2003 AD domain controller and wish to move it to another IP network range. One of our remote sites will be moving to another premises and connecting to another IP address range. Both sites currently have VPN connections to our main office.

What affect will this have on Active Directory and DNS?
Are there any tricks to look out for.
I assume that just changing the IP address and the network cable will not be all I need to do?

    Thanks in advance,

Re: Changing IP address on 2003 AD server

    Hi Colder,

TBH this is something I have never had to do - Might test it when I get home. I would personally do the following:

    * Change the IP address of the server
    * Run in a cmd prompt "ipconfig /registerdns"
    * If you AD server is also a DHCP server then you might have to change the scopes to fall in line with your new subnet
    * Check DNS to ensure all records have updated with the new IP address
    * Run DCDIAG and NETDIAG on the DC to ensure there are no complications.

    Hope this helps
