  • Demote AD running on cluster server. Any Impact?..

Currently I set up 2 node cluster server (also consist SQL Cluster) and 1 of node is an AD server. I've noticed that a wrongly design for AD cluster environment. Now I plan to demote the cluster AD :

    Our plan is:

    1. Install 2 new windows 2003 server

    2. Join domain and become member server.

    3. DCPROMO to become DC for the existing domain.

    4. Do replication with old AD server (clusterserver).

    5. Transfer FSMO roles from Old AD to New AD.

    6. Demote old AD (Cluster server).

    My questions?:

    1. If is any impact on the current AD?

    2. If is any impact on the SQL cluster server during and after demote process?

    3. How about the MSTDC after we move the FSMO roles?

Do not forget to install DNS, move all the FSMO roles to the new DC, configure the new DC as GC and point all the servers to the new DC as their primary DNS server.

Other than that you should be ok.
