  • pls comment on my new DC?

    Hello frnds,

I have a dhcp configured router with the following details

    network 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0
    range 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.252
    default-router 192.168.2.1
    dns-server 202.54.6.60 202.54.1.30

and have a lease line connections and one only domain controller without the DNS

now i planned remove the dhcp from router and configure the dc with dhcp and DNS(active directory integrated)

dhcp config (same as in router.. only diff is dns-server as dc(primary) and
    202.54.6.60(secondary))

dns config like primary zone: mydomain.com (other defaults) and forwarders as 202.54.6.60 and 202.54.1.30

my questions is whether the clients will be able to resolve the outside world names(like google.com,etc) from thier pc and any issues with root dns...

whether any other suggestions ... any flaws will occurs ... pls shout.....

Without DNS, you do not have a DC.

Run DCPROMO to make this machine a DC. DNS can be installed before DCPROMO or during. Turn off the router DHCP before you install DHCP on the DC. DHCP will also need to be Authorised before it will "work". Make sure you include an exclusion zone so the DC and possible network printers can be assigned Static IPs.

dhcp config (same as in router.. only diff is dns-server as dc(primary) and
    202.54.6.60(secondary))
202.54.6.60 should be set in the DNS Forwarders tab (as per below) and NOT as the Secondary DNS.

dns config like primary zone: mydomain.com (other defaults) and forwarders as 202.54.6.60 and 202.54.1.30

Don't forget to add Reverse Lookup Zone
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2
