      Re: fsmo roles

      Yes agreed, I did mistake starting itself due to shortcut mind.
      found the soln all the error and recified except this error.
      An Error Event occured . Event ID :0X00000457
      (eVENT STRING COULD NOT BE RETRIEVED).
      Can't get soln for the above error msg .
      Otherwise I just transfer back fsmo roles to Master and demote testdc and put back fresh OS image.then i must follow your steps.

        Vijill, in order for us to assist you better it would help if you could describe your problem and what you're trying to do in greater detail. Obtaining an english spell checker would also be of great value to you.

        Cheers

            Having the snap-in does not mean the DC is Schema Master. You can install the snap-in even on XP box.

            On both DCs execute "dsquery server -hasfsmo schema" from a cmd prompt and make sure both are pointing to the DC the schema role has been transfered to.

              Re: fsmo roles

              I have done windows update on this new TESTDC and my vendor also replaced network card due to network connectivity issue. Again I tried dcdiag utility to check that server. there was no major errors at all. below errors appeared my present ANGEL DC and TESTDC also. but we do not have any production issue so far. Please guide me on this.

                Re: fsmo roles

                Have you tried starting the services and setting them to automatic?

                BTW - when I run dcdiag these are the only services it checks for:
                Code:
                Starting test: Services
                   * Checking Service: Dnscache
                   * Checking Service: NtFrs
                   * Checking Service: IsmServ
                   * Checking Service: kdc
                   * Checking Service: SamSs
                   * Checking Service: LanmanServer
                   * Checking Service: LanmanWorkstation
                   * Checking Service: RpcSs
                   * Checking Service: w32time
                   * Checking Service: NETLOGON
