  • SBS 2003 Group Policy Issue

    Hi,

Below is what I am trying to achieve and what I have.

SBS 2003 R2 SP1, and I have a windows xp client sp2 that I want to restrict as much as possible when logging into the domain.

I have setup a new OU and put the client computer in there all ok. I have setup some computer and user restrictions and have done gpupdate and rebooted both server and client and nothing applies. Have done a gpresult and it shows that the client restrictions policy is showing in the rsop but still not applying. Have put the user in the ou and removed the computer and all ok. Have put the computer back in and removed user and no joy again. I know this can be done as I have done this with an sbs server and terminal server and put the TS in an OU and put both computer and user restrictions in place so I know this should be ok.

Any Ideas or hints would really be appreciated as this is driving me nuts.

    Thanks,

    Hi markiejd.

    Here's a hint: Loopback Processing

    Here's a little more info.
User Configuration section of a GPO only applies to users and not computers. That means all the settings under the User Configuration section of a GPO that is linked to an OU that contains only computers will have no effect.

To have specific user settings apply only when logging on to a specific computer(s) then you need to enable Loopback Processing.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=231287 for more info.

Good thread but not specific to SBS - perhaps should be moved over to the AD forum!
