  • DC Promo Down & move svr to new domain

I dcpromo down server and am running it as a member server on a different domain. Can I promote it to a domain controller in the new domain with out any residual problems form the old domain?

Somewhere I remember hearing that the old domain data gets left on the system and could may cause problems.

If anybody has any information regarding that I would be grateful. Thanks

If you had any problems before, you are going to inherit them. If it was my project, I would back up what I had to and do a reinstall.

This is only issue when you have a failed DC and are not able to run the dcpromo to demote it properly.

BTW - there are ways of cleaning up Active Directory to remove the traces of the failed DC i.e. metadata cleanup.
