  • AD Replication - Question about auto-generated replication connections

I am in the middle of a large migration form NT4.0 to Win 2003 AD. We
have 2 Hub -Datacenter sites, each with 2 AD DC's and about 50 remote
sites. We've migrated about 10 and each remote site has 1 AD DC.
What I've noticed is that all the remote sites are replicating with
one particular remote site. If I check AD Sites and Services | NTDS
settings for each site, they all have 1 automatically generated
replication connection with this one particular remote site. I'm not
sure why this is. I know I can click on the connection, click change
and pick a different DC. Ideally each remote DC should be replicating
with one of the HUB DCs. I originally thought this would be automatic
since each remote sites 'site link' contains only itself and one of
    the HUB sites.

    My questions are:
    1. What is the best way to clean this up?
    2. If I go and manually change the generated replication connections,
will this cause issues? I know they will no longer be 'automatically generated.' Then, will the KCC and ITSG no longer do their thing?
    3. What, if any is the best way to config and environment like this. All remote sites are within their own site, and the site link contains their site along with one of the HUB sites. Subnet info is all there.
