  • SQL 2008R2 & Server 2008R2 WSUS

    I have several healthcare organizations that would benefit greatly from implementing a WSUS server into their network. But, like most organizations, there budget has decreased do the economy. Microsoft recommends using SQL 2008R2 Standard or Enterprise Editions. Is it possible to use SQL 2008R2 Express Edition for a WSUS server?

    Scenario: One organization has over 100 computers that will be accessing the WSUS Server, and another has around 20 computers.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Just use the Windows Internal Database that comes as a part of WSUS. It's a stripped down version of SQL Server 2005 and doesn't require any SQL Server licensing.

      ++ WIndows Internal Database
      Alternatively no issues with SQL express

      (Are you surprised MS recommend paid for, licensed products? the real surprise is they don't insist on a CAL for each WSUS client)
