  • Questions About Timeouts

    My setup is this:

    Primary SQL server at headquarters

5 Secondaries located around the country at our satellite offices.

I perform synchronizations over the WAN with very little bandwidth, we're talking fractional T1.

I've had some failures of my sync job, but when I added several seconds for network and general timeout to the connection string for the job, it seems to have fixed itself.

Is that normal practice? What do you suggest?

Over 80 some views, surely someone has experience with large table updates using MS SQL over the internet.

Apparently not -- our real SQL guru's don't seem to be available -- but you seem to have fixed the problem anyway

I have found timeouts to be an issue fairly often (not in a WAN environment), and like you, increase the durations, but have never really gone into it in more detail
